Inspiration for Under the Microscope
Inspired by the biological and cosmic sciences behind my art, I seek to explore fantastic alternative realities to what human eyes typically witness. Both microscopic and celestial domains create the opportunity for this abstract alternative, as they are mysteriously foreign degrees of magnitude to that which we experience every day. My imagery is generated though a rigorous magnification process in order to bring my world into focus.
Mirroring my fascination with science and the limits of human understanding, my artistic practice has always been one of investigation. I am from the Chicago area, received my BFA in Painting from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 2003, and am currently working towards my MFA in Painting at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI.
